List of important things to do before you graduate

Okay, so you will be graduating soon and you are still clueless about whether to study or work. And what is more confusing, is the fact that you don’t know what to work as or what to study. So till you figure that out, here is a list of important things you must do during your graduation to help you later:

1. Research If there is a particular course, you’re interested in studying, or a career you want to take up, research about it to the core. Leave no room for second doubts or regrets. Speak to seniors or professionals in the industry till you are confident about studying the course. Look at all possible options. Try to learn more about the university, ranking, etc.

2. Volunteer Volunteer to do some community service. Doing so will speak a lot about you in your resume, as all organizations look forward to hiring people who are humble and kind. But honestly, think about it. As cliché it sounds, don’t you think it’s time to give something back to the society?

3. Take an English Test qualification With more and more students opting to study abroad, it is important for non-English speaking students to take up exams like TOEFL or IELTS. Since applications to universities abroad is a tedious process, it is always best to stay prepared.  You never know when the opportunity might crop up. The same holds true for graduate examinations like GRE.

4. Develop a talent You’re sitting idle anyway. So learn that guitar that has been biting dust since your high school or develop any talent that you love, be it sketching, music, cooking, sports, etc. Just do it. A talent never goes waste.

5. Do an internship This is very important. If you think doing an internship will benefit you in studying then apply for one ASAP. Most employers love to hire young graduates who have already had some kind of work experience, so that they don’t have to deal with a complete newbie. Moreover, you will be in their good books as they will think of you as someone who is responsible and focused.

6. Learn a foreign language Do you know that even though English is the global lingua franca, only 5.6% of the world population speaks it? Learning another language will opens up new opportunities for you in terms of personal, professional, social, and economic growth.

7. Read Why? Because, it’s enjoyable and will help you increase your knowledge and reading ability. Still not convinced? Well, there is this really interesting proverb, “He who doesn’t read books is no different from someone who doesn’t know to read at all” 8. Network Share a good rapport with your classmates and professors. You never know how important they could be to you 6 months down the line. Chances are you friends could be working in some nice organization when they graduate. Or you might need recommendation letters from your professors for studies or job. So, NETWORK! And by that I don’t mean adding them on Facebook.

To sum it up, I would say, once you have followed these 8 tips seriously, rest everything will fall into place. And from here on, have a plan for the next 3 years but don’t  plan your life completely because someone very interestingly said, “Life is what happens to us while we are busy making other plans”.
